The Journey
The Story
After spending years exploring Ireland’s towns, coastlines, mountains, and countryside, Kaitlyn developed a deep appreciation for the landscapes and natural materials that shape the character of the island.
Seeking to create artwork with a stronger connection to place, she began experimenting with incorporating natural Irish materials into her creative process.
Today, her work combines traditional watercolour techniques with pigments and textures inspired by Ireland’s natural environment, creating pieces that reflect both the beauty of the landscape and the stories embedded within it.
Rooted in Place
Connection to Ireland
Every piece begins with Ireland. Many of the colours and textures used throughout Kaitlyn’s work are inspired by materials gathered from the Irish landscape, including seaweed, mosses, coastal vegetation, and naturally occurring earth pigments.
Rather than simply depicting Ireland, her work aims to incorporate elements of it, creating artwork that carries a genuine connection to the places that inspired it.
This approach reflects a core belief that meaningful keepsakes should tell a story and create a lasting connection to place.
From Landscape to Paper
The Process
Each painting begins with field sketches, photographs, and observations gathered while exploring Ireland’s landscapes.
Colour studies are then developed using a combination of traditional artist materials and pigments inspired by natural Irish elements. Multiple layers of watercolour are applied to build depth, atmosphere, and texture while preserving the fluidity and transparency that define the medium.
The result is a collection of works that seek to capture not only how Ireland looks, but how it feels.
