When we moved back to Ireland after many years abroad, one of the things we looked forward to most was sharing Ireland with visiting friends and family. Like many visitors, they wanted to bring something home to remember their trip. Something that reflected the places they had visited, the stories they had heard, and the connection they felt to Ireland.
What we quickly discovered was that finding those kinds of keepsakes wasn't always easy. There was no shortage of products marketed as Irish. Souvenir shops were full of magnets, keychains, novelty items, and products decorated with familiar symbols. But too often, the things that were easiest to find had little genuine connection to Ireland itself.
We weren't looking for another fridge magnet. We were looking for something meaningful. Something that reflected the Ireland our visitors had come to experience. Something made with care, craftsmanship, and a sense of place.
At the same time, we began discovering talented makers creating exactly those kinds of products. Artists incorporating Irish seaweed into their work. Makers working with Irish wool. Designers inspired by local landscapes, traditions, and stories. Craftspeople preserving skills that had been passed down through generations. The problem wasn't that these makers didn't exist. The problem was finding them.
The more we learned about the world of makers and craftspeople, the more we appreciated the skill, patience, and dedication that goes into creating handcrafted work. Behind every piece was a story. Behind every story was a person investing their time, creativity, and passion into creating something meaningful. Yet many of these makers faced the same challenge: reaching the people who would value their work most.
That realization became the foundation for My True Ireland. We created My True Ireland to help bridge that gap. To connect visitors looking for meaningful keepsakes with makers creating meaningful work. To celebrate craftsmanship over mass production. To highlight authenticity over stereotypes. To showcase products that carry a genuine connection to Ireland through their materials, inspiration, traditions, stories, or sense of place. We are particularly drawn to work that could only have come from Ireland. Sometimes that connection is found in the materials themselves, such as Irish wool, seaweed, wood, stone, or clay. Sometimes it is found in a landscape, a tradition, a community, or a story. Sometimes it is simply found in the perspective of a maker whose work reflects something uniquely Irish.
Not every product needs to look traditionally Irish. Not every piece needs a shamrock or Celtic motif. What matters is authenticity, connection, craftsmanship. We believe the best souvenirs are more than purchases. They become reminders of places visited, memories made, and stories carried home. They connect people to Ireland long after their journey ends.
That is the Ireland we want to share. That is the Ireland worth bringing home.
